Ahhh, yes. Netflix and chill. This has quickly become an acceptable way for people to spend some quality adult time together without the antiquated terminology. Booty calls and late night hookups need to be left in the 90’s with the “69” page that accompanied them.
The newest incarnation for people who want to just keep it casual, is the Netflix and chill date. I use the term “date” somewhat loosely here, as it’s more of an enjoyable evening spent in the confines of one’s home. Whatever might or might not happen is totally up to the two people involved.
The reality is that if you are lucky enough to have a woman agree to come over to watch Netflix and hang out, odds are that she’s interested in being more than platonic friends. You both (hopefully) understand the dynamic to having a casual evening together and it’s important to maintain the qualities of a true gentleman.
Let’s get a few things straight first. A woman who comes over for a Netflix and chill type of evening is not your run of the mill booty call. She’s probably has a little more class and, more often than not, doesn’t need to be with you to satisfy her urges. In short, she’s choosing to spend a little time with you and, yes, she is completely aware of where the night might be headed.
Just because she decided to come over to hang out doesn’t mean it’s going to be a sure thing. It’s up to you to find just the right movie that’s going to get her going.
It’s up to you to decide what type of movie is going to work. You want to pick a film that she’s possibly seen before and might not be too worried if she doesn’t see it all the way through to the end.
However, you want to also make sure that it’s entertaining enough so that it’s not obvious you just picked this as background noise and that you have no intention of actually watching any of the movie. If that’s your angle, just put on some music and be direct.
Netflix and chill movies need to have just the right combination of emotion, romance, action, sex and a great soundtrack. They don’t have to fit every category and they don’t need to be award winning films.
What they need to be is entertaining enough to give you something for an initial common bond and have aspects that are bound to get the proverbial juices flowing as well.
So, in no particular order, here’s a list of some great movies to try out on your next Netflix and chill adventure.
You can’t go wrong with Johnny Depp when he’s not dressed like a drag queen chasing ships across the Caribbean. Chocolat is a very sensual tale of a woman who moves to a small, conservative village in France to open a chocolate shoppe. The chemistry and sexual tension between Dep and his co star, Juliette Binoche will get your date ready for a nice, enjoyable chill.
Y Tu Mama Tambien (2001)
Even though this movie is subtitled and will take a bit of effort at the beginning, the payoff will be well worth it in the end. Two young men persuade a beautiful woman to accompany them on a trip across Mexico. Very sultry and erotic, the chemistry between the characters feels real and is never gratuitous. The woman turns the boys into men in the biblical sense and you are sure to enjoy the fruits of her labor.
The 40 Year Old Virgin (2005)
Steve Carell is great as a video game playing box store clerk who has yet to experience the benefits of a Netflix and chill evening. His quirky awkwardness and social ineptitude will keep your date laughing and give you plenty of opportunities to show her how it should be done.
The Graduate (1968)
You’re sure to inspire her own Mrs. Robinson fantasies with this classic film starring a very young Dustin Hoffman. The folk-music inspired movie has a great soundtrack and enough sexual tension to keep the night steamy.
Looking to avenge the death of his beloved and keep Scotland free from tyranny, Mel Gibson leads a bloody yet righteous charge with a ragtag army against the English. You and your date are sure to get involved in the bloody search for revenge and find a common enemy to bond over rooting against.
The Sixth Sense (1999)
Bruce Willis is a child psychologist trying to get to the bottom of his young patient’s supernatural ability of being able to see the dead. Both suspenseful and rewarding, this is one of those movies that will have you and your lady snuggling together on the couch in anticipation of what will happen next. This is one of those movies that are great to watch with someone else, even if both of you have seen it already.
Old School (2003)
What better comedy to add to the list than a goofy romp of middle aged men having adventures and chasing women as they form their own fraternity. The two of you will bond over the juvenile behavior of these seeming grown men. “You’re my boy blue!”
The Notebook (2004)
This is the one that will fill your romantic movie quota and get your lady in the mood for love. Use caution when using this movie for a Netflix and chill evening as it might be difficult to compare to Ryan Gosling’s romantic gestures. If you initiate your own romance at the right time, this is the perfect primer for a very passionate and intense chill.
Your lady doesn’t need to be a fan of horror movies for her to appreciate this instant horror classic. This movie is actually more of a satire than it is scary, but there will be enough surprise moments to allow her to jump into your arms. The bonus is that this is one of those movies where both of you probably already know the outcome, so you can get into playtime at any point.
Nymphomaniac: Volume 1 (2013)
Use caution with this film. A young woman relates her very erotic experiences over the course of this two volume work. This film is very sexually charged and might just be the right fodder for an evening of unbridled lust. However, you need to gauge your companion and make sure she’s feeling the erotic vibe as much as you are. If you both get into the film, your night is bound to be pretty outstanding.
These are just a few selections for you to try on your next Netflix and chill evening. You might have your own special titles but the ones on this list are perfect for those of you looking to branch out and try something new.
